Arts Unbound

Wild and Crazy

We have been moving and shaking.  Artwork by artists promoted by Arts Unbound has been displayed and featured in Ridgewood, Livingston, West Orange, Maplewood and Orange.  Now that summer is over, we are back in the schools teaching kids with special needs, and we continue to offer classes to adolescents and adults living on the Autism Spectrum.  Our 2009 holiday greeting card line has just been launched and we are hosting our first bonafide fundraiser in November.  We refuse to give up, despite a recession that has made life difficult, to say the least.  We are thankful to the Kessler Foundation, The NJ Council on Developmental Disabilities, the Daniel Jordan Fiddle Foundation, the United Way to name just a few of the generous funders who continue to support and encourage us.  Art is the vehicle which binds us and motivates us.  Come visit our gallery.  A new exhibit will begin on October 17th of lovely works of art by artists living with mental, physical and/or developmental disabilities.

  1. Couldn’t agree more that “art is the vehicle that binds us”! Art is such a powerful force, and it can do amazing things! I have always believed in the power that art has to lit lift you up . It has helped me “channel my abilities” and even made my disability “work for me!”!! I definiely believe my “shakey hands” add a distinctive “touch” to my paintings.
Art played a big part in helping me recover from several devestating bouts of clinical depression, both by letting me get out my feelings, and by giving me confidence and “planting” and growing “seeds of self-esteem” as I got some recognitiion for my work.

I have been fortunate to have to very supportive parents, especially my mother, who encouraged me and stood by me all the way. I believe very strongly in the power of support and I think that it can come from anybody willing to listen, encourage and “go the distance”. Doesn’t have to be parents, just anyone available.

It’s been a wonderful experience to see Arts Unbound continue to grow and change. The quality of the art is awesome!I recently purchased a painting done by someone in the autistic spectrum and could “see” the level of “control” and “peace” that person was able to achieve. I hope Arts Unbound continues to be able to foster these sorts of achievments!
